Life is Meaningless with Vision

The 5 goals that I want to accomplish in my life are:

1. Start a business (Any business will do)

Starting a business is my primary goal. I like the feeling of owning something that can give me a source of income. I especially want to start a supermarket business.

2. Travel around the world (To every single country)

I want to see new new sights and get to know new people. Staying in one place bores me. Traveling is one of my many hobbies.

3. Successfully grow a watermelon (Seriously, my plant keeps dying)

I can't seem to grow a watermelon. I have been using fertilizers and watering them everyday. The plant keeps turning pale yellow. Maybe I should change the soil.

4. Pass the CPA exam and join a partnership (Maybe a limited liability partnership)

Since I am an accounting major, I need to pass the CPA in order to take advantage of being an accountant. Well, assuming that I will graduate.

5. Make lots of money (Well, I need something to travel the world with)

There was once a proverb that said:

With money you can buy a house but not a home.
With money you can buy a clock but not time.
With money you can buy a bed but not sleep.
With money you can buy a book, but not knowledge.
With money you can buy a doctor, but not good health.
With money you can buy a position but not respect.
With money you can buy blood but not life.
With money you can buy sex but not love.

But I disagree. Money is everything. It can buy you everything except time. Without money, can we really live a life that we want?

Alfred A. Montapert once said "To accomplish great things we must first dream, then visualize, then plan, then believe, then act!" Just having a vision does not accomplish anything. Vision by itself is just merely a daydream. The action I will take after graduating from Baruch College is to find some people to partner up with to start a business. Manage the business well and in a few years, I should have enough funds to complete my other 3 goals in life.

  1. Very realistic goals. I have similar goals to yours, therefore I understand your vision for the near future. What I disagree on is in the fact that you wrote "Money is Everything". I believe that money can buy you many things to contribute to your overall happiness. But money is a very important document that unfortunately CAN'T buy you happiness. I am content at the moment, I don't work but I have a family that I will die for.
It is true, I am not 100% happy because I don't have my own money (my working money), but I am still very satisfied with what I have. Money is important but not everything in life. Probably if I would have some more of this precious-significant paper, I would be a little bit more happy that what I am at the moment. I am still not sure it will guarantee my 100% happiness.
Money can buy you material possessions, but it cannot buy you happiness and peace of mind.

Do you really think that money will give you that happiness you need in life?

  2. LOL i totally support you to successfully grow a watermelon. i've read many other students management blogs about vision and no one had a goal as simple as growing a watermelon. I know that growing a watermelon isnt simple, but for you to think of it as a goal is really something different and unique. i wish you all the luck in planting that watermelon and when it does grow, i hope its the best tasting watermelon you ever tasted!

  3. I never wanted to start my own business because I can't imagine to go through the process and manage it. It just seems really hard but I hope you will own your own business one day. Maybe I can get some discount from your supermarket lol. I also want to travel! It is one of my hobbies too! Even though I have not visited that many places. My dream is to travel the world and meet different kinds of people and learn their cultures. Well, I do not think money is everyhing. It can't buy you a happiness and it definetly can't buy you a true love. But I do agree that we need a money to travel lol. Well, I wish you a best luck and hope your visions will come true.

  4. grow watermelon, that is a very interesting vision. I think one of the reason your plant keep on dying it's because we are in North. I think you should grow it in the south because a friend of my dad owns a farm in the South that grows watermelon and he told me that watermelon likes hot temperature. Also, I want to make a lot of $$ in the future so I can choose to spend them on things that I want or need.
