Currently I have difficulty finding time to study for my Finance class. The class is about 3 hours long on Friday so I must read 1 chapter a week. The problem is that I have class from 9:00am to 9:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. I also work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Even if I have time after work, it is used to do the homework I am given on Monday. On Thursday, I usually get to read about 30 pages. Usually a chapter in the Finance book is about 50 - 60 pages.

If you are off on the weekend, then there is enough time to study for finance. I prefer to do all the schoolwork weekdays, too, so I can relax on the weekend. However, it is a stressful routine. Nowadays, I also study over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteAlso if you make copies of the chapter to read in the subway, you can read a whole chapter in just a few subway rides.
I agree, try to make some copies or carry the book with you if it is not that heavy so you will be able to read it in the subway or bus.
ReplyDeleteI am also in a finance class and besides the readings you also have to practice the formulas and problem solving activities. I will also suggest you to get the study guide. It will give you a brief explanation of the chapter (the most important things), problems for you to solve and quizzes to practice. I don't know what kind of book you are using, but probably it does have a study guide. The majority of those books for FIN do have it. Check at the bookstore on Saturdays or after MGT class, the bookstore should be open. They are not that expensive. If not, try to check on the web page of the books publisher, usually they have activities for you to practice from the computer or maybe print them out at school or so. You can find time to do such things during the few minutes break or between classes that we have.
That is the best advice I can give you for such busy schedule you have. I know how demanding is Baruch, but try to make some time for the reviews because the exams are not cute.
Hope it helps.
Time management seems to be a common trend amongst us all.
ReplyDeleteI think you should look at my blog for a few tips on how to manage your time.
The best advice I could give you is really to try to re evaluate your days, and see if you can cut some unnecessary leisure time, and make some more study time.
Btw, I am taking finance as well, and it is a real pain =P
I think getting everything prepared earlier is way much better to do it in the last minute. According to what you wrote, you can better ulitilize your free time in weekends. I'm not saying work and study like a monster, I fully understand that we need some free time for ourselves, our families and frineds. However, one saturday or sunday study should be fine for one chapter.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, you can use some " fragment time" .. what I call the fragment time, for instance, the time you sit still in the subway. Don't look down on this little time, they can be huge when cummulated.
Hope this little opinion can help you =) I haven't taken the finance class... hope it wont do me too hard. Good luck on yours =)
